Understanding Potential Penalties After A DUI

Drivers who are convicted of DUI can face a litany of penalties that can lead to major challenges in life. These can include jail time, fines, a driver’s license suspension and the requirement to have an ignition interlock device on the vehicle. In addition, the conviction will be on the person’s record and could cause problems with future endeavors and getting automobile insurance.

A Legal Defense Is Key

Even in cases where the evidence is strong, there are still strategies to avoid the worst consequences or even get an acquittal. The investigation could have been flawed, extenuating circumstances could help with reducing the charges, or there may be an option for treatment instead of incarceration. The case can be challenging, especially if people were injured in an accident. Before doing or saying anything to exacerbate the situation, it is beneficial to consult with legal professionals experienced in DUI defense immediately.
